Services

The Soup Kitchen promotes programs to motivate and educate low-income individuals and families.  These programs include a partnership with Goshen Medical, the Downtown Lion's Club, Wayne Community College and an onsite Community Information desk.  Goshen Medical Center comes to the center once a month to provide free health assistance to individuals and families who are homeless or migrant workers.  The Lion's Club provides eye exams and eyewear for the low-income.  Wayne Community College provides Human Resources Development (HRD).The community desk provides information on Wayne County's resources including bus schedules and other opportunities.

    GOSHEN MEDICAL

    Goshen Medical services include Substance Abuse Evaluation & Treatment, Mental Health Evaluation and Treatment, Case Management and Primary Medical Care.  The service criteria includes individuals and families who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, living in transitional or temporary housing and Migrant farm workers.  For further information please contact Rosemary at (919) 731-4941.

     

    THE DOWNTOWN LIONS CLUB

    The Downtown Lions Club interviews clients once a month to see if they meet program requirements for free eye exams and eyewear.  Four vouchers are provided each month.  For further information please contact Carolyn Kirkland (cell) (919) 222-1943. 

     

    THE HRD PROGRAM AT WCC

    The HRD mission supported by Wayne Community College is to educate and train individuals for success in the workplace.  This includes upgrading job skills, enhancing and developing life skills, reducing welfare dependency, employment assistance.  Anyone who is over 18 years old, unemployed or underemployed workers, dislocated workers, Social Services customers and anyone interested in self-improvement should enroll.  There is a fee waiver if you are unemployed, have notification of a pending layoff, working and eligible for Earned Income Credit, earning at or below 200% of federal poverty guidelines.  The first step is to register, please call the WCC HRD Office at (919) 735-5151 ext. 270.  

     

    FAYETTEVILLE HOMELESS VETERANS PROGRAM

    PROGRAM GOALS:

    Our goals are to assist each homeless veteran with improving their level of integration into the community. Through an array of services, we hopeto encourage each homeless veteran to attain their optimal level of independent functioning.

    ELIGIBILTY:

    Eligibility for HCHV benefits is based upon discharge from active military services.  Discharge paper (DD214) is helpful but not necessary.

    WORK FIRST EMPLOYMENT SERVICES

    STATEMENT:

    Alternative Work Experience is a work activity, preformed in return for Work First benefits, that provides an individual with an opportunityto acquire the general skills, training, knowledge, and work habits necessary to obtain employment. The purpose of Alternative Work Experience is to improve the employability of those who cannot find subsidized employment.
